Which Ink Does My Printer Use?

Finding the right ink is simple once you know your printer's model. This guide shows you how to identify it in seconds, then points you straight to the exact compatible cartridges USA Ink Supply carries for your machine.

Step 1: Find your printer's model name

Your model is the make and model printed on the machine — for example Hasler WJ180, Neopost AS-960C, Formax ColorMax 8, or Pitney Bowes DM100. Look in these spots:

  • On the front panel or display of the machine
  • On a label on the top, side, or back of the unit
  • Near the ink/cartridge door
  • On your original invoice or lease paperwork

Step 2: Know your ink type

Once you have the model, the ink type follows from the machine category:

  • MemJet mailing & label printers (AstroJet, Formax ColorMax, Hasler, FP, Neopost, iJetColor, Rena, VIPColor) use high-capacity dye-based MemJet ink tanks — sold as singles, 2-packs, and CMYKK 5-packs.
  • DTF printers use DTF pigment ink in CMYK + White. Our water-based DTF ink runs on any DTF printhead — Epson XP600, i1600, i3200, 4720, 5113, DX5/DX7, plus Ricoh Gen5/Gen6, Kyocera KJ4B, Konica Minolta 1024i, and Toshiba CF1.
  • Postage meters (Pitney Bowes, Neopost/Quadient, FP) use fluorescent red postage meter ink that meets USPS requirements.

How do I find out which ink my printer uses? +

Check the model name on the front of the machine or on its label, then match it to a compatible ink. For mailing and label printers this is usually the brand and model (e.g. Hasler WJ180, Neopost AS-960C). USA Ink Supply's printer finder maps each model directly to the ink it takes.

Where is my printer's model number? +

Look on the front panel, the top or side of the unit, or a label near the ink door or on the back. Postage meters often show the model on the display or under the manufacturer name (Pitney Bowes, Neopost/Quadient, FP).

Do different colors use different cartridges? +

For MemJet and DTF systems, yes — each color (and black) is a separate tank or bottle. You can buy singles, build-your-own multi-packs, or full CMYK/CMYKK sets. Postage meters use a single fluorescent red cartridge.
